Fortnite Adds New Creative Mayhem LTM

Fortnite rolls out its latest maintenance patch today, with the biggest update coming in the form of the new Creative Mayhem LTM.

Fortnite is rolling out its latest maintenance patch today, addressing issues related to cosmetics, stability, and a bug preventing players from picking up the Mythic Raz's Explosive Bow. The update also adds a new LTM competition in Fortnite's Creative Mode: Creative Mayhem.

One of Epic Games' free-to-play title's lesser known modes, Fortnite Creative is a sandbox-style mode where players can create structures on a private island and customize rules for the various available multiplayer games. Epic substantially updated the Fortnite Creative mode last fall, overhauling the hub and adding new systems to more easily access different creator maps.

Announced on Fortnite's official website, the Creative Mayhem LTM promises players the chance to "play with your favorite Fortnite creator." Beginning on May 4, players who sign up on the official Creative Mayhem website will be eligible for Creative Mayhem, and rewards players with the Golden Flopper Spray simply for registering. Additionally, players can easily unlock a bonus reward in the form of the Piranhas Pickaxe. The bonus cosmetic can be attained by playing for a total of 30 minutes on the Creative Mayhem map. The map can be accessed via the Creative Hub or by entering the code 1994-6642-9073.

Players who excel at Fortnite Creative death runs now have their time to show off their skills. From May 4 at 9am ET until May 11 at 9am ET, gamers can submit their best time on the Creative Mayhem website. The top qualifying performers will be invited to participate in a special event alongside the Creators they selected.  The top players will then play under one of eight Fortnite content creators in a fight to reach the finals. Following the qualifiers, one Creator and their community will go on to represent their region or country in the Creative Mayhem Global Finals for a prize pool of $264,000. The qualifying rounds and Global Final take place in late May, putting it around the same time as the Finals for this season's FNCS tournament.

While Fortnite's Creative Mayhem is an all-new mode, recent documents reveal Epic has even more of them in the pipeline. The Epic Games vs. Apple court hearings are finally underway, with a leaked court document revealing a potential open world mode. The document revealed information related to plans for a new type of map, codenamed "Sandbox." With no word from Epic Games, fans have begun to theorize that "Sandbox" could be working on an open-world version of Fortnite's even lesser-played PvE Save the World mode, which has struggled to remain popular compared to the Battle Royale mode's immense popularity.

The new Creative Mayhem LTM should be a fun way for players to try something outside of the game's typical offerings. However, some players may not want to deal with the hassle of uploading YouTube videos just for a competition submission. The regular Battle Royale mode should be plenty interesting currently, as the Tactical Shotgun and Infantry Rifle are now back in the game.
