The Story for The Last of Us 3 Was Roughly Written But Saved For Other Times

In the Podcast Script Apart, the director of The Last of Us games, Neil Druckmann, said the summary of the action of the third part was written, with the hope that "one day she will see the light of day."

Last of Us
Soon it will be a year since the release of The Last of Us: Part II, a game whose dust has not yet settled. Neil Druckmann, writer and director of The Last of Us games, touched on the possibility of making part three in the Script Apart podcast. With assistant screenwriter Halley Gross, Druckmann confirmed that the story of the potential The Last of Us 3 is roughly over, and that he hopes to "see the light of day someday." "We'll see." – concludes Druckmann.

Druckmann points out that there have been a lot of internal discussions about game three, but concluded that it is important to choose well and maintain enthusiasm about the story they want to tell, given that the development of games like The Last of Us Part II takes so long.

"Usually after we finish with a title, we have long considered what new ideas we might explore in the next games. Whether it's The Last of us 3, reviving older franchises or something new. I want to fully devote myself to all options." - Neil says.

Based on the above, we can note that Naughty Dog is still searching for the next big title, although a recent Bloomberg report unofficially tells us that work is being done on the reworking of the original TloU and the new Uncharted. As a result, Days Gone 2 was also allegedly dismissed, although Sony's confirmation does not exist for any of these claims.

In the above podcast, first noted by IGN, Druckmann and Gross also talked about the story of the Last of the Us Deuces and what was ejected, its troubled exit during the pandemic and the fact that they were hacked - in which the leaks that Naughty Dog had been well guarded for all those years. They also reflected on the upcoming HBO adaptation.
