The Epic Games Store makes its latest free game available to claim while also revealing what it will be giving away next week.
Last week, players got their hands on Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms for free thanks to the Epic Games Store, allowing them to experience a 50 hour RPG with no price tag attached. As of today, the title has officially been switched out, with the storefront making another game free to claim while revealing what will be up for grabs next week.
Players can access the store right now and pick themselves up a copy of Pine, while next week, they'll be able to claim The Lion's Song. Pine is available for free until May 13, at which time will be replaced by The Lion's Song, which will stick around until May 20. All players have to do is head over to the Epic Games Store's website to create an account, and they'll be able to join in on the storefront's current and future weekly giveaways.
As for what they can expect from both titles, Pine is an adventure game that tasks players with exploring a large open world filled with anthropomorphic animal tribes. Players' standings with these villages of cartoony characters depend on their actions, as trading, talking, and fighting drastically alters their reputation. Along the way, players will begin to amass allies and enemies, as their decisions force tribes to leave their homes or dramatically advance their technology. It received middling reviews back at release, with critics praising its ambitious concept but criticizing its execution and sloppy mechanics.
The Lion's Song, on the other hand, fared better with reviewers, scoring an 81 on Metacritic. For those who haven't heard of the title, it's a narrative-focused adventure that's split into episodes, with each individual chapter following a different character in early-20th-century Austria. The title mostly deals with themes of creativity and inspiration, featuring a poignant art style and moral choices that will alter the direction of the overarching story. It's sure to be a steal for fans of narrative-heavy experiences.
Epic Games continues to offer an array of both indie and blockbuster gems through its weekly giveaways, with the storefront offering account holders Alien Isolation, Grand Theft Auto 5, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Rage 2, Watch Dogs 2, Stranded Deep, and more over the last 12 months. It was recently revealed that Epic Games spends a lot of money on its regular weekly giveaways, with the company's current legal battle against Apple revealing that it spent $11 million on the Epic Games Store's lineup of free games during 2019.
