A basketball mini-game for Fortnite Party Royale is under development

Internal documents from the Epic Games development studio suggest that Fortnite Party Royale could get a mini basketball-themed game.

If it were up to the creators of the popular game Fortnite, their product would be anything and everything – from battle royale hits, through the stage for virtual concerts to walking advertisements for various franchises and brands. It's no surprise, then, that epic games inside Fortnite's Party Royale mode planned to make a basketball mini game as well.

This was revealed through documents attached to Epic Games' litigation with Apple, where it is said that since the summer of 2020 work has started on a basketball-themed arcade mini-game. It was conceived for 1-on-1, 2-on-2, 3-on-3 and 4-on-4 formats, and was supposed to feature dribbling and basket shooting mechanics. There's also some connection to the NBA league and LeBron James' costume.

Although the basketball addition to Fortnite was due out in autumn 2020, which ultimately didn't happen, there's a chance it could still be worked on. Recently, we have already seen epic games aim to get popular athletes into Fortnite, so football player Neymar Jr. It is possible that Epic Games is keeping basketball mode on hiatus and plans to use it to promote the upcoming film Space Jam: New Legacy, starring the aforementioned LeBron James.

In addition to the basketball mini-game, the open world simulation mode was also under development for Fortnite. What exactly is meant by this – we will probably find out in the near future.
