An incredibly high amount was paid for a rare copy of Super Mario Bros and this game became the most expensive paid game in the world for the third time.
Heritage Auctions
Two years ago, for rare, unopened copies of Super Mario Bros. Nintendo entertainment system consoles are paid six-digit amounts. First someone paid 100,000 US dollars, so in the summer of 2020 a new record of $114,000 was set. Then at the end of 2020, the most expensive paid game became Super Mario Bros. 3 for $156,000. But it is now pennies than the amount because someone for the original Super Mario Bros. has now paid six times the previously record amount.
One copy of Super Mario Bros. sold this week for a staggering 660,000 U.S. dollars. Why so much? This copy of the game, in addition to being well preserved and unopened for more than 30 years, is specific for one thing – below the game inscription on the packaging next to Nintendo Entertainment System does not have a TM (trademark) label, which was added to all packs of black packs of Nintendo's games after 1987.
It has not been revealed who the buyer of this very rare specimen is, but it is said that the auction had two bidtors willing to offer more than half a million dollars for this game. The reason for this lies in the fact that there are currently no similar copies of this game in circulation, at least as far as is public knowledge.
