According to a report by analytics firm NPD Group, PlayStation 5 has become the fastest-selling console in the history of the US market.

PlayStation 5 has also become the highest-grossing console in the first five months, but that goes hand in hand as it sells at $499 (or so at least the recommended retail price), which is still more than what a PlayStation 4 or any other Nintendo console cost.
Now how much does this title even matter? The answer is – not much except for busting in the chest because it all depends on how much time span is taken for it. In other words, the PlayStation 5 is the fastest-selling console on the U.S. market in the first five months since its launch. But it's doubtful whether it will be the fastest-selling console in the US ten months after launch – that title still belongs to the Nintendo Switch console.
Switch also won the title of the best-selling console on the US market in the third month, continuing its months-long streak. Nintendo has made good use of the situation here as the Switch console is stocked, while Sony and Microsoft are toiling to meet market demand for new consoles.
No matter that it sells faster or more, one fact stands out. Americans set aside 47% more on gaming hardware last month than in the same period in 2020, setting a record of $680 million spent on acquiring video game gaming devices.
What economic crisis?
