iOS 14.5 Update Will Introduce A Battery Recalibration Tool

From time to time, our devices stop working the way they're supposed to. Sometimes resetting does the job, but sometimes it needs a little more help. This is something Apple is looking for regarding the iPhone battery as it will introduce a new battery recalibration tool in the iOS 14.5 update.

Currently, iOS 14.5 is still in beta, but the latest beta has already introduced a new function – a battery recalibration tool. Basically, the idea behind this tool is that if your battery is no longer working as it should, you may be getting less battery life than before, you can use it to try to recalibrate. As you can see in the screen shot above in the photo, Apple warns that the recalibration process could take weeks, so this is not the current solution.

Also, unusually, Apple states that this option only works with the iPhone 11 series for now, although the iPhone 12 is Apple's newest model. "IOS 14.5, coming later this spring, includes an update in which the battery state reporting system will recalibrate maximum battery capacity and maximum performance on iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max to address incorrect battery health reporting estimates for some users."

Apple has already included tools that allow users to check the battery status of their iPhones, so this seems like an extension of that. To be honest, we can only speculate on how effective this tool will be, but at the very least it's an option that users can explore before they take their phone to Apple for possible repair.
