More than half a billion Facebook users' personal data was posted online Saturday, highlighting the company's difficulty keeping sensitive information, Bloomberg reported.
Information includes phone number, Facebook identification, full name, location, previous locations, date of birth, email address, private status and resume, according to the US agency.
Sensitive personal data from more than half a billion Facebook users has been leaked to a hacking forum, posing a potential risk to millions of cryptocurrency traders and people who may now be vulnerable to various online attacks, according to Alon Gall, technical director of security firm "Hudson Rock", who posted the information on Twitter.
Gal claims the data leak is linked to a security gliding that was first detected in 2019, and in January 2021., it was revealed that it had been leaked. In 2013, it was established that hackers could also use information to access users' phone numbers.
The latest data leak has now spread to Facebook ID, full name, location, previous location, date of birth, (sometimes) email address, account opening date, private status, and resume.
According to Alon Gallo, the information could now be useful to hackers for various types of scams as well as serve marketing purposes.
