Fitbit is in the final stages of preparing a new device, the first since it was bought by Google. By all accounts, it won't be a Wear OS smartwatch, but it looks like the company is going back to its roots.
Unofficial leaked information mentions the Fitbit Luxe, a luxury version of the fitness tracker. This trailer, according to these reports, is made of steel case with an OLED screen and alternate bracelets. Fitbit plans to bring a balance between stylish design and fitness options.
the report suggests that Luxe could have a built-in GPS, a heart rate monitor and be water resistant, which would mean swimmers could use it as well. So far, there is no information on when Fitbit could officially unveil the Luxe, but there are indications it could be soon.
The biggest challenge for the company could be the price of the device. Fitbit with this device apparently plans to target the premium market, but at the same time has to fight a large number of competing cheap fitness trackers, which are quite usable for most users.
Also, in light of its integration with Google, this could be one of the last, if not the last, Fitbit devices that won't be based on wear OS.
