Microsoft and Relic Games finally revealed a little more details about the anticipated strategy game Age of Empires 4 and showed the first gameplay from that game.
At the just-held show Age of Empires: Fan Preview, fans of Microsoft's strategy series were finally able to see Age of Empires 4 in action. There's a lot to point out, so without further ado, here's what we've seen.
One of the new game civilizations in Age of Empires 4 will be the Sultanate of Delhi. They will use famous war elephants, and prominent units will be fighters with spears. Here's what it's going to look like:
Then we got a view of the first campaign – the one with the Normans. The campaign itself is inspired by the manuscripts of the time it depicts, and the way to present the story is in the style of BBC production documentaries. Other campaigns in the game will also have a similar presentation mode. In the campaign we will follow the story of Duke William of Normandy and his descendants laying the foundations of modern England.
From the novels in the gameplay we got a glimpse of new strategies during the fight. one of them is hiding units in the forest so that ambushes can be organized. Visibility in such terrain will be very limited, and the units that find themselves hidden will be marked with blue contours.
In the end, we saw a fraction of the naval battles briefly, but that part of the presentation was just an announcement of what we would see in the near future.
We didn't get a release date for the game, but Microsoft says their plan is to launch the game by the end of 2021.
